Text Box: Walenstein Musical Organization was founded in January 2005 and was legally recognized in 1996, as the Haitian Corporation for Musical Development (HCMD).
The original purpose of HCMD was to create a musical organization which provided individual and group music lessons after regular school hour for Haitian children and youth, and offer these students the opportunity to perform for members of their community.
Numerous performances were offered by our young students in most of the Haitian churches services, in public libraries, Target Department Stores, Senior Citizens programs, and the Dade County Fair from 1997 to 2004.
In 1997, we were invited by WLRN-TV to participate in the Cable Tap program, where HCMD present a 12-episode series entitled “HCMD In Action.” There, we successfully presented our educational goals and objectives to the public of South Florida and our student were able to perform live.
In 1999, HCMD’s music program was open to other communities of South Florida. In addition, the Walenstein Annual Music Competition for youth between the ages of 13 and 21 was created. In April 2008, we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the competition.
In January 2005, the name of the organization was legally changed to Walenstein Musical Organization (WMO) for future enhancement of our outreach program.
In 2006, WMO started its ambitious chamber music program and in October 2007, Walenstein Symphony Orchestra (WSO) was created.
